From Addiction to Redemption: A Powerful Day at Manna House

About a month ago I had the opportunity to capture a Book Launch at Manna House for a local author and friend. The Manna House is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing men battling addiction with a safe and supportive environment where they can experience full recovery and be restored to a fulfilling life of sobriety through Christ.

When I arrived at Manna House, I stepped into a cozy spot on the property called The Awakening Coffee Shop, a place that helps support the residents. I ordered an iced coffee and took a few moments to prepare my camera settings for the shoot.

I started by photographing my client as he signed copies of his newly released book in a well-lit seating area inside the coffee shop. Afterward, we took a few posed headshots before heading into one of the buildings where the class was about to begin. This was my first time attending a class like this—let alone documenting it through my lens. It required a sensitive approach to respectfully capture the atmosphere while still preserving the tone of the moment.

Being behind the camera at events like this reminds me that photography can give a voice to the voiceless, shed light on real struggles, and celebrate the victories—both big and small—along the way. In moments like these, it’s not just about lighting or composition. It’s about presence. It’s about showing up and capturing authenticity in a way that honors the people in front of the camera. I hope to support causes that bring healing, hope, and purpose to others.

These photos will help communicate the heart behind the book and establish a professional presence that still feels authentic. They’ll show who he is, what he stands for, and why his message matters, all at a glance.
